Boat Statistics
The model: Pete built this model to experiment with the powerful Mega 22/45/1E motor and Lipos. He debuted the boat at the 2007 Gold Cup running an Astro 25 on 14 NiMH cells, but eventually you may see the boat changed over for testing. He decided on this boat because he liked his old Stroh Light hull so much. This one was designed with less angle of attack in the sponsons in anticipation of eventually having to handle the increased power and less weight. This should be an exciting experiment. Pete brought the boat out of retirement at the 2009 Apple Cup.
The real boat: Built as the "STROH LIGHT" in 1988 by Jon Staudacher, this boat was powered by twin Ford 585 V-8s. The team boasted horsepower equal to or better than it's turbine competitors and a hull weight of 4,000 pounds- about 2,000 pounds less than the turbines. The crew struggled all year with hull and engine problems and the boat was eventually sold to Brian Keogh who entered the 1989 season with a new paintjob and drivers Ron Snyder and Mark Evans. The boats best result of the year came in Miami with a sixth place finish, the team ended the season in 11th place in national points.
